LaVerne K. Penoyer passed away Sunday April 15, 2018 in he home. She was 93 years old.
The oldest of six siblings she was born in Eagle River Wisconsin on July 18, 1924 to parents, mother Elsie Wilson Kringel and father, Hubert Kringel. She came from Wisconsin to New York after meeting her future husband, Carl Penoyer when he was in the army on winter maneuvers in Northern Wisconsin. Carl married LaVerne January 25, 1947 in Eagle River Wisconsin. They moved back to Central Square after their wedding and resided there for all of their lives.
LaVerne, wife, mother of three boys and homemaker, she would also work in any of the family businesses whenever needed. She most enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Brewerton, NY. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth-Caldwell Chapter, Central Square and Grand Officer of the State of New York Chapter. LaVerne in her earlier years was involved in several golf and bowling leagues. She was especially proud of her hole-in-one in her ladies golf league in Alexandria Bay, NY. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at the Methodist Church in Central Square. She was also a member in the choir at the Calvary Baptist Church in Brewerton, NY. She was a host of her weekly ladies prayer group. LaVerne loved riding horses with her friends. Boating was also a favorite on Oneida Lake, later in the St. Lawrence river by her cottage in Alexandria Bay for over 50 years.
A very special thanks to all her caring nurses who were with her for the past 30 years in her home. Thank you , Gail Lauricella, Patricia Wheeler, Jane Phippen, Tracey Mendez, Esther Winninger, Donna Young, Michael Mazza, Susan Meagher, Kelly Bush, Veronica Woodward, Norma McDougall and many others over the years. A very special thank you to S. Ann Woodward, RN for the great care and many many rides and trips as "LaVerne and Shirley". Besides her parents, LaVerne was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Carl A. Penoyer, her brother Robert Kringel, and her sisters Ione Lumley and Diane Kringel.
Surviving are her sons, Larry (Dawn), Donald (Ann), and Thomas; her sister Orlene Chrismer of Syracuse; her brother Larry (Cynnie) Kringel of Wisconsin; a very special grandson Chad Penoyer; four "like" granddaughters, Elisha, Lauryn, Teall and Veronica Woodward; and also several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4:00pm to 7:00pm Friday at the Watson Funeral Home, Central Square. Funeral services with Rev. Mike Thesier officiating will be 11:00am Saturday at the funeral home with burial following in West Monroe Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Donald Penoyer, Thomas Penoyer, Chad Penoyer, David Chrismer, Charles J. Yorkey and John V. Bell
